Conexus Mobile Alliance, one of the largest mobile alliances in Asia, concluded its first Board Meeting for 2020 and the first hosted via videoconferencing in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. Representatives from 9 members, including FET from Taiwan, 3 Hong Kong from Hong Kong, Indosat from Indonesia, KT from Korea, NTT DOCOMO from Japan, Smart from the Philippines, StarHub from Singapore, True from Thailand and VNPT-Vinaphone from Vietnam came together to explore opportunities and assess risks in the region.
A recognition of an aggregate impact to the shared roaming business halting what had been a growth area across the alliance. As such, Conexus is embracing a joint effort to drive efficiencies in international roaming to overcome this unprecedented pandemic situation.
Amidst the economic challenge, in addition to contributing back to suffering people in own countries via various CSR activities, members agreed that technologies especially 5G related ones and digital transformation are the key success factors to help people go through such difficult situation. Alliance members are making every effort to exchange and introduce essential technologies in their own markets to benefit customers.
“5G related solutions would enable people to cope with the new normal taken place from the COVID-19 pandemic. Social distancing can be complemented by VR technology and unified communication platforms, while tasks performed in risky locations e.g. infection patient room or harmful environment can be done by robots. Technologies not only save people but also help us work in more efficient way,” quoted by Conexus Board Chairman, Mr. Supoj Mahapan.
“Along with the work-from-home trend, digital transformation has been developed and adopted widely and rapidly in the past few months. As leading telecom operators and solution providers, Conexus members have tailored different technology use cases to serve various verticals and communities,” added Deputy Board Chairman Mr. Dennis Wong.
